Exquisite Corspses - Why Isn't Anyone Talking About This? and Giant Arms

No, I'm not talking about an artistic arrangement of mangled dead adventurers, but instead the Awesome Looking New Project Coming Soon From Stefan Poag, "Exquisite Corpses"

1) It looks to be the next incarnation of the Esoteric Creature Generator, which is pretty cool as multiple random monster generators are far more random than a single random monster generator.

2) The artwork is geared towards 'adults.' No, we're not talking about porno here, just some tasteful T & A and eyeball boners, like the stuff you see everyday in the right sort of underground comics. As an adult, I applaud this strike against kindergartenization/conservative chickenshithood. As someone with a juvenile sense of humor and a dirty mind, hot snake women with boobs and crabmen with eyeball boners never fail to put a smile on my face!

3) The Esoteric Creature Generator is pretty ace, but sometimes the results are pretty inchoate, it's looking like Exquisite Corpses may produce "quicker, simpler" results, and it's nice having multiple options for your random monster creation!

I am very, very stoked by the preview artwork and am looking forward to Exquisite Corpses

  2. Blair, thanks for the bump, and for bringing Stefan's AMAZING work to my attention. The Giant Monster Arm is in an issue of Fight On! (I think it's #6).

  3. I wasn't aware of Stefan's project, either. It looks right up my alley. I LOVE James Raggi's Random Esoteric Creature Generator.

  5. Than you for the term "conservative chickenshithood".

  6. @ B. Portly: I've been a fan of Poag's artwork for as long as I've been aware of it, but the recent stuff has achieved a new level of demented awesomeness!

@ Tom: Thanks but I swiped that term from a Dead Kennedy's song. It's been playing in my head ever since I read that TSR code of etics.

  7. Thanks for making us aware of this guy and his work. Very cool stuff. Anyone who quotes Andre Breton on their blog is always worth a look in my book. We'll have to swap Exquisite Corpses sometime...

  8. Wow! Thanks for the boost! I think this post of yours brought a lot of new folks to my blog.

I loved the idea of Raggi's 'Random Esoteric Creature Generator' as soon as I heard of it. I had been playing around with the concept of 'Exquisite Corpses' as a way to make weird Hieronymus Boch inspired monstrosities, but once I heard of Raggi's book, I said, "Why not"? and looked into printing it via Lulu (I made a 'proof' copy with my inkjet, but it pretty much fell apart when I slit the tabs to be able to mix and match heads, bodies, legs, etc... so I went to Lulu to get spiral binding).
I just got a proof back from Lulu the other day... a few revisions, a new cover and it will be available.
